If desired, Dr. Smit will classify submitted digital representations of x-rays into the above categories.
Standard projections in my practice are: AP standing Right &
Left knee, lateral and skyline (patellar) view of knee of interest. For
predominantly unicompartmental osteoarthrosis (medial or lateral), stress views are
often helpful. This will most likely lead to a satisfactory
classification. Occasionally, particularly in cases of early arthritis,
additional information is obtained from MRI or arthroscopy. In the
majority of cases, however, the initial classification is made from
X-ray.
The fee for this assessment is $50, you can usually expect a
classification or comments within 24 hours, up to a few days under
extraordinary circumstances. If the submitted X-rays are
unsatisfactory, you will be provided with suggestions for
improvement.
Note: the x-rays will be classified according to the pattern
of arthritic change. These are not full radiological assessments.
Particularly, other diagnoses cannot be excluded based on these limited
assessments. Full interpretation of the x-rays should be performed by
a radiologist.
