As an orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Smit evaluates and makes diagnoses on joint and bone disorders. Where appropriate he performs a variety of innovative and traditional repair and replacement procedures:
Standard knee implants or minimally invasive unicompartmental (or partial) knee replacements are performed. Partial knee surgery is done primarily using the Oxford knee implant (mobile bearing), but also available is the Miller-Galante Knee (fixed bearing).
Minimally invasive hip procedures and conservative hip procedures are performed for hip resurfacing and hip replacement. Of note is the Birmingham Hip replacement.
Shoulder procedures include standard shoulder replacement and resurfacing shoulder (Copeland Shoulder) and a variety of arthroscopic procedures.
Arthroscopic procedures are also available especially for knee and shoulder.
